Sometimes we need to see the truth in black and white in order to take action. A new online health assessment tool provides the, sometimes harsh, reality that may be the kick-start you need to make life-saving changes.
The Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation has released a new Risk Assessment Tool on its Make Health Last website. (www.heartandstroke.com). The tool allows you to complete an assessment and receive a health report at no cost. It also enables the individual to set goals, track progress and get tips for living a healthier and hopefully longer life.
The assessment gives you a clear vision of what your individual risk factors are for heart disease or stroke and offers specific steps you can take to control these factors. Once you select your goals for a healthier life, tips for reaching these goals are available after you register. The tool offers support and tracking of your progress.
The online tool goes on to offer motivators, such as the fact that an unhealthy diet may shorten your life by up to seven years and many resources including shopping rules, nutrition facts, and a link to the foundation’s free <30 Days app. The tool also provides information on the health risks of carrying excess weight, smoking, alcohol use, lack of exercise and stress.
