While the world has some 868 million citizens over the age of 60 in 2014, by 2050 there will be 2.20 billion. Yes – Billion with a B. Want to know how your country is doing as it cares for its elderly population?
Canada, for instance, is 4th on the index – 4 spots higher than our neighbours to the south and 7 spots ahead of the UK. Who’s first? Norway. And last? Afghanistan.
A 60 year old Canadian can expect to live to be 85 years of age but in good health only to 78.3. All that wine that you think might help you age better if you lived in France will only get you to 78.8 in good health. First place Norway doesn’t see its seniors living quite as long but they feel safer and more free as elders. Ah, now, the Aussies down under – their over 50 crowd ranks way up there in terms of feeling that their lives have meaning compared to the young’uns under 49.
There’s more – lots more. Follow this link to Global AgeWatch and check out Canada and any other country that captures your interest.
