When someone we love passes, grief is a normal reaction. According to Dr. Katherine Shear who completed a study on complicated grief for Columbia University, 9% of people over the age of 61 experience grief that goes well beyond what most consider ‘normal’ grief. Loss becomes a part of life to those over 65 but to the spouse left behind, trying to imagine life without their partner is unthinkable.
