Forbes recently released it’s 2016 list of the 25 best places to retire in the United States. Rather than ranking them, each city offers unique amenities or advantages appealing to different needs and interests for the aging population.
It’s no surprise that many of the cities are located in warmer climes, and many also feature a low cost of living along with cultural and educational opportunities and convenient ways for seniors to stay physically and socially active.
Keeping in mind that by 2020, the number of adults over the age of 55 will reach 71 million, older adults may not want to put off planning their retirement. With many seniors anticipating working at least part-time in retirement, low unemployment rates are also a consideration in making a move later in life.
Accessibility to health care, crime rates, tax incentives, volunteerism and walkability are also consideration taken into account in creating the list.
Ten of the top places to retire in the U.S. include:
- Abilene, TX
- Apache Junction, AZ
- Athens, GA,
- Bella Vista, AR
- Blacksburg, VA
- Bluffton, SC
- Brevard, NC
- Care Coral, FL
- Clermont, FL
- Colorado Springs, CO
